About The Artist
Karen has had a love for art all her life. Originally from New York, she studied art in southern California and now resides in El Dorado County, where her work is quite popular. As a mixed media artist, Karen uses inks, pastels and watercolor pens and much more. Her attention to very intricate little details is what makes her nonsense and fantasy blend with the realistic places depicted in her scenic views.
Since the 1970's Karen has been selling her original art and crafts throughout many different venues in California and now in the Gold Country. For years Karen has been selling her art and crafts at High Hill Ranch #1 during the Apple Hill season. In historic Placerville, CA, (a.k.a. "Old Hangtown) Karen is a member of Gold Country Artists Gallery, where her fine art originals and prints are also available for purchase.
After seeing the movie "Fantasia" where the dandylions danced the Hopok to Russian music, she fell in love with Russian culture. In 1985, she fulfilled a lifetime dream and went on vacation to Russia. At that time, it was still the U.S.S.R. Many of the works in the Russian collection are based on her personal photographs. In fact, a lot of her works are drawn from her photographs. However, some are just drawn out of her head, pulled from her immense imagination. Karen has her own art studio, which she proudly calls Secret Headquarters Art Studio.
